Volunteer with us!
Volunteers are at the core of what we do and we appreciate all the support we receive from our volunteer community. No prior skills or knowledge are required to volunteer with us. Our volunteer sessions usually run from April to the end of October. We have the following volunteer sessions:
– Gay Gardeners: Join our garden team to maintain our growing space and look after the crops for our veg box scheme. This group is suited to anyone who would like to learn more about growing fruit and veg in a market garden context. This session is for anyone who identifies as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transge(open to all).nder, queer, questioning or otherwise on the LGBTQ+ spectrum. Thursday 10-3pm
Optional potluck style lunch at 1pm for the Thursday sessions.
– Market Garden Crew: Join our garden team to maintain our growing space and look after the crops for our veg box scheme. This group is suited to anyone who would like to learn more about growing fruit and veg in a market garden context. This session is open to all. Every Second Saturday of the month 10am-1pm
-Friday Community Sessions: This group is less focused on getting jobs done in the market garden and more on meeting others, learning together about gardening and nature and fostering wellbeing. Each week of the Month will include a different regular Club, which are:
First Friday of the Month – Pond Club– Come and help us look after our wee ponds and learn about these unique habitats.
Second Friday of the Month – Herb Club– Connect with this ancient practice in a relaxed and welcoming environment. We’ll explore the bounty of the garden with its rich offering of herbs, and learn together about their histories, uses and folklore.
Third Friday of the Month– Bee Club: In Bee Club we collectively look after our bees. Please note that this is not a taught beekeeping course. While questions are always welcome and the group facilitator is a trained beekeeper, the focus of this group is on collective learning and supporting each other to look after our hives. All PPE and equipment is provided. Please note that we only have limited spaces available on this group so we are looking for people who have previous beekeeping experience (either with us or otherwise) or who can commit to coming along for the whole season as we cannot train new volunteers each session.
Fourth Friday of the Month – Partner Organisations – We’ll bring in some of our wonderful partner organisations to lead on areas outside of our expertise! Please note that some of these sessions may be ticketed, check our Events page if unsure.
It is essential that you register before coming to any of our volunteer session. You can do so by emailing us at volunteer@thewashhousegarden.co.uk .
